Flooring Care
Below is our recommended care for flooring we sell. Please visit the manufacturer website in the Supplier section of this site for warranty information for your flooring. At King’s Flooring, we offer all our customers a 1 Year Labour Warranty on all installations.
HARDWOOD
- It is recommended NOT to wear shoes on your hardwood floors as dirt sand and grime can ruin the surface finish.
- Liquid spills MUST be wiped up as soon as they happen. Any wood species will eventually absorb moisture and ruin.
- Furniture and appliances should have cork or felt pads placed on all legs; NOTHING should be dragged over a wood floor.
- Cleaners used on your hardwood floor should be specifically made for your type of hardwood floor.
- Walk off mats or runners are recommended in high traffic areas (hallways, foyers, etc).
- Sun light can discolour your floor; use sheer curtains in rooms where the sunlight is strong.
- GENERAL CARE
Sweeping your floor is recommended to remove any grit or course material that may scratch your floor surface. - Vacuuming your floor is a sure way of getting rid of the grit and dirt from your floor, use the bare floor attachment to protect your floor from scratching.
- Mopping your hardwood is NOT recommended. Dust mops or “Swiffer” mops are recommended with a 12 inch – 18 inch cotton head, most manufacturers have their own brand along with their brand of wood cleaner.
- HARDWOOD STAIRS
Runners are recommended on all hardwood stairs to reduce any damage due to traffic. - Frequently wiping down the stair treads with a well rung out soft cloth will keep the stairs free of dust particles that end up sticking in the corners.
LAMINATE
- It is recommended NOT to wear shoes on your laminate floors as dirt sand and grime can ruin the surface finish.
- Liquid spills MUST be wiped up as soon as they happen. Any laminate will eventually absorb moisture and ruin.

- When cleaning the floor, use a damp mop with a PH-balanced detergent or mild soap to clean and keep the surface free of abrasives such as grit or sand.
- Always avoid the use of harsh cleaners such as abrasives, oil or ammonia-based cleaning products. Only use cleaning products approved by the manufacturer.
VINYL/ FIBRE FLOORING
- Vinyl upholstery fabrics are produced porous to allow perspiration venting and will absorb stains.
- Wash with mild detergent and water.
- Use a soft bristle brush for stubborn soil. Rinse and dry.
- Some household cleaners and solvents remove plasticizers from vinyl, making them brittle. Abrasive cleaners scratch the smooth surface.
- Sometime letting detergent solution stand on surface and “soak” a few minutes loosens soil.
CARPET
When it comes to carpet, there are many cleaning solutions that may work depending on the type of dirt or the solution of the spill.
- Vacuuming frequently is the key to keeping your carpet free of dirt buildup and soil accumulation.
- Spills MUST be cleaned promptly according to the manufacturers recommended procedure.
- Periodic ”professional” cleaning is recommended according to your materials warranty.
- For tricky spills please consult your flooring representative for proper procedures.
CERAMIC/PORCELAIN
- All ceramic tile and porcelain tile are different; therefore different products will work better with different finishes. Normal nonabrasive cleaners will work well with most ceramic and porcelain tiles, though you may have to try some different brands until you find the one that fits your requirements.
NATURAL STONE
- We suggest consulting the manufacturer of the natural stone product to attain their recommended cleaning products specific for that type of stone.
AREA RUGS AND NATURAL SKINS
- We recommend that you have a professional dry clean your rugs whether it is synthetic or natural skin.
